A Cinderella Story
January 19, 2007
SANTA MONICA CA. Two years ago a collective group of independent filmmakers built Tunnel Post, a sleek post production company designed to meet the needs of their own films. It was an in-house solution to the expensive post facilities that surround Santa Monica.
Today, just steps from the Promenade, Tunnel thrives as a full service digital intermediate and editorial facility, responsible for the delivery of high-end media while also out bidding the competition.
Several feature films are in post production at Tunnel. Many have come to take advantage of Digital Intermediate and a full service package that takes clients through editorial, online and color. The hassle free package also takes into account a re-recording Sound Mix from partners Subtractive and Private Island both suited with state of the art mix stages. Tunnel has taken pride in becoming an all-in-one stop for production companies who are exhausted by bidding each step on their own. Producers can now see the light at the end of the post production Tunnel, hence the companies metaphoric name.
However, Tunnel isn’t the average post facility. It’s owners have combined efforts with a long list of partners to produce feature films, television, live entertainment, and even mobile content. A company built on dreams has found a niche churning dream projects, and like Cinderella, has made a presence at the ball. Some would ask how Tunnel formed it’s business model? It’s quite simple:“Build it and they will come.” And they have come, even as far as China.
Latest efforts merge Tunnel with Chinese Media Company A.O.B. Media Inc. Through this partnership Tunnel will create content for over 300,000 mobile media screens in China just in time for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. This February the two companies are producing The Las Vegas musical event Fusion at the Aladdin Hotel. East meets West in a two day concert series that we will feature Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley, Rhiana, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Lee Hom, Jay Chou, Tigra, and many more of the top stars from the U.S. and China. Fusion will air on China’s most popular Satellite TV channel Hunan TV.
Meanwhile, Tunnel along with Partners Wingman Productions and Brenster Productions have a slate of films to emerge in 2007. The Tara Reid comedy “7-10 Split” rolls out with a strike! This story set around an out of work actor who finds easy money by entering bowling competitions features Vinnie Jones, Ross Patterson and Clayne Crawford. “Loaded” featuring rising star Jesse Metcalf, wrapped production in November and is due to pack a punch in mid 2007. The Art of Travel, starring Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Brooke Burns and Johnny Messner takes audiences on an adventure through Panama and South America – one of the few features approved to film in Peru’s Machu Picchu. “The Art of Travel” not only features sweeping locations but a stellar supporting cast that includes, Bijou Phillips, Maria Conchita Alonso, Latin sensation Shalim Ortiz, along with James Duval and Jake Muxworthy. Past clients include the David Mamet Film, “Edmond” and a long list of music videos and television commercials.
Tunnel’s light shines bright in 2007 as the company expands it’s Digital Intermediate process, Color Correction and Visual Effects. Created for filmmakers by filmakers Tunnel has the mind-set of a producer so they can meet the producer’s needs. Expect to hear more of Tunnel’s endeavors because the new kid in town is here to stay.
